Disaster recovery starts with creating a detailed plan that defines the process to recover data and services. That's like putting your money in a straw jar at home. Or maybe right out the window. Backing up is a key step in ensuring your data is available in the event of a crisis or disaster. Data backups should be set up regularly, automatically, and data should be stored in a secure location away from the main network environment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Data protection:<\/strong> Just as having an antivirus program on your personal computer is a necessity these days, data protection needs to be addressed on a company basis. Data protection includes encryption, firewalls and other security measures that prevent unauthorized access to important information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Testing and exercises:<\/strong> Having a plan is step #1. Equally important is to test it regularly, update it and train the team. Testing the recovery plan and simulating crisis situations is critical to ensuring an effective recovery process.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>RTO and RPO:<\/strong> If you don't have enough shortcuts in your business, we'll throw in two. Do you know RTO (Recovery Time Objective) and RPO (Recovery Point Objective)? RTO defines the maximum acceptable time frame for service recovery.
