  • Focus on actual HW consumption.<\/strong> Not estimates, but real numbers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Turn off what you don't need.<\/strong> Inactive servers, old test environments, forgotten virtual machines - all cost money.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Monitor PUE regularly.<\/strong> It is this indicator that tells you how efficient your operation really is.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    PUE: the basic compass of energy efficiency<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness)<\/strong> is the most widely used data center efficiency metric. It clearly shows how much of the energy is actually used by the IT infrastructure and how much is spent on cooling, distribution and other supporting technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • PUE = 2.0<\/strong> means that for every 1 kW for IT you consume 2 kW in total.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Good practice is heading below 1.5<\/strong> - the lower the better.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Lower PUE = lower costs, smaller ecological footprint, more efficient operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1) Measure consumption in real time<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      2) Get rid of old, inefficient hardware<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
